PINTEREST FOR ‘LAZY VEGAN FOOD’

4 Mar

Love pinterest?

Hate busy nights where you just do not have the energy to make vegan food?

No problem!

Even though I want to support eating fresh, home-cooked meals as often as possible, and feel my best when I eat less processed food, I tend to fall short of my aspirations during busy weeks. That is why it is still important to have a great go to pinterest user to follow when you have too many dishes in the sink to properly cook anything.

Vegan Chocolate, Snacks, and Frozen food are my my favorite boards from the user, follow them here!

UNEXPECTED ‘VEGAN’ FOODS AT YOUR GROCERY STORE

5 Feb

I was inspired to write this article when one of my old friends decided to try going vegan for a month. I, even as a vegetarian of 4+ years, was surprised she was undertaking this challenge since we both still lived in the dorms at the time. She made it through the challege though, without ever going to a health food or co-op store. Where did she shop for her ‘healthy’ vegan eats? Hy-vee, Casey’s Gas Station, and the burge marketplace.

Since I have decided to also undertake the Vegan lifestyle for the semester, I figured that it would be worth my time to put together a list of easy to find items that still fall in the standards of an animal-byproduct free lifestyle.

Turns out, there a lot more items on a normal grocery list that also fall into a vegan diet than you might expect. Of course you will have to still steer clear of the dairy and meat sections, but there is hope yet when you find yourself on a limited ‘health-food’ section and a college kid budget when it comes to purchasing Vegan food.

So I have compiled a list of common/delicious vegan options that you might find surprising…

Beverages:

Ghirardelli Hot Chocolate (any flavor except for milk chocolate)

Kool-aid

Breakfast:

Fruity Pebbles

Cocoa Puffs

Pop Tarts (Unfrosted)

Betty Crocker Bisquick

Lunch/Snacks:

Chick-o-Sticks

Oreos

Famous Amos Sandwich Cookies

Fritos (Original)

Most Flavored Gum

Keebler Ice Cream Cups

Krispy Kreme Fruit Pies

Lay’s Stax

Murray Sugar-Free Vanilla Wafers

Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars (Apple Crisp)

Triscuts

Twizzlers

Thomas New York Style Bagels

Cobblestone Mill Whole Wheat Bread

Edy’s No-Sugar Bars

Dinner:

Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

Mrs. Smith’s Deep Dish Pie Crust

Smuckers Uncrustables Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly

Jello-O Instant Pudding

Hormel Chili

Old El Paso Fat-Free Refried Beans

Thai Kitchen Noodle Bowls (Thai Peanut and Roasted Garlic)

Progresso Soups (Lentil, Hearty Tomato, and Tomato Basil)

San Giorgio Pastas (Angel Hair, Elbow Macaroni, Rigatoni, Rotelle, and Spaghetti)

I am not endorsing these as the healthiest option, but definitely the some of the tastiest, middle ground food options when on a vegan diet.
